Absolutely fabulous

A BBC comedy written by Jennifer Saunders (who plays Edina Monsoon) in which Jane Horrocks plays Bubble, the no-good and extremely lazy personal assistant to Edina at Edina's PR firm. Through the three seasons you get the impression that Bubble is not necessarily dumb, but merely too lazy to use the skills she does have. E.g. she does speak French, she did remember the PR's PR speech but didn't help her boss out and she became really efficient when she finally got fired. Her laziness also shows in her talking: "She taxed the office while she was on your holidays". Guess what she meant to say...

Jane is not in all episodes. Most notably she doesn't appear in the extra 1.5 hour episode The last shout. Maybe the best episode judged by the Bubble-content is the third series' New year's day. The whole of the third series was (according to me) even better anyway than the first two, both in quality of the show as a whole and in the way Bubble was used as a character.

Trivia:

  • The series is based on a French and Saunders sketch in which Dawn French played the daughter.
  • As many people have already pointed out and more people each day seem to discover to their surprise, all the major actresses have a name starting with the letter 'J'...

    Availability

(if this is incorrect, please tell me)

  • All AbFab episodes, three per tape, are available everywhere, even in the Netherlands!
  • An out-takes video, Absolutely not, is available in the UK.
  • My knowledgeability

I have all AbFab episodes on tape and must really control myself not to quote Bubble's lines in daily life. Not all the time anyway. (My boss: "Gidi, this report must be finished Friday." I: "Consider it done!").
