The rise and fall of Little Voice

This play is written especially for her by Jim Cartwright (who earlier wrote Road), around her impersonations. Which reminds me a bit of the third AbFab season, when Jennifer Saunders perfectly knew how Jane was going to act those lines and a real synergy started between the writer and the actress.

I would love to have seen this. The story involves a Lancastrian girl (Jane Horrocks) listening to and mimicking her father's records. I think this play was on stage around 1992/1993. Jane was nominated Best actress at the Olivier awards.

There will be a film version in which Jane will play. The producers wanted to give the leads to American actors, but after many protests in the press (often quoting Jane...) they finally decided an horror story is not what's needed and gave the role to Jane anyway. That American actress who was originally said to play the part, has once said in an interview that all that research into a character that British actors do to give the character more depth, is unnecessary and rather overdone... Anyway, the film will be shot in September 1997 in London and also feature Ewan McGregor.
