In this TV film from 1995, Jane Horrocks plays the main role of Alison. Her husband is the victim in a road accident and his brain is severly damaged, leaving him decaying to childhood. Alison tries to cope with this and must make decisions about what the future will hold, sometimes opposed by the mother-in-law. A lot of research has gone into this film, both by the actors and by the writer Kay Mellor and all say that they've learned a lot (also personally) from the research.
I have seen this film, many thanks to Steve Hunstone, and recommend it to everyone. This film is very good, both in the writing (very believable even on some difficult to imagine issues) and the acting. Jane Horrocks can use her full range of acting talent to portray the happy, the sad, the heartbroken and the stressed moments (among others); it's difficult to imagine any other actress making the film work like she does.
Trivia (thanks to Paul Persen): the film is filmed in Rawtenstall, the village where Jane grew up.

My knowledgeabilityI have a tape recording from TV because a very, very (very) kind UK citizen sent it to me. I consider this to be the best of all Jane's films, especially regarding her performance. |
